Are You A Market Mystic?
December 18, 2009
Financial Astrology has been called a form of market mysticism.
Although that term has usually been applied to the astro-trading discipline in a disparaging or pejorative way, if you remove the negative connotations it's probably accurate.
When we apply astrology to the markets, there's an underlying assumption that there's some kind of natural order or Divine Plan that's reflected in the action of the markets, that no matter how many ups and downs there are in the course of a trading day, price and time will ultimately come together in perfect harmony.
As astro-traders, if we accept that premise, our job becomes one of trying to determine what those harmonic patterns are, so that we can align our trades with the cosmic tendencies that are being expressed through the markets.
If we figure out what those patterns are correctly, then our trades are profitable. If we don't, then we need to rely on effective money management and well-planned stop loss orders as we continue our task of aligning ourselves with the natural order.
It's that second part-what happens when our analysis falls short-that makes matters interesting. We are always reminded that we have more to learn, and that effective trading is more a matter of discipline than anything else.
But oddly enough, it's also what can turn our trading activity into a spiritual endeavor, whether or not we are conscious of our market mysticism. After all, it is when we acknowledge our mistakes, when we admit that we really don't have all the answers yet, that we are most open to inspired guidance, the most demonstrative of the kind of humility that accelerates our learning, and the most ready to transcend our limits and reach for greater spiritual expression in our lives.
You may, of course, want to keep your market mysticism to yourself. It's not something that's always easy to discuss, even with other active astro-traders. But even so, it's a good idea to reserve some room in your mind for it, and to remember than in our quest for higher profits, we can also be on a quest for greater enlightenment and fulfillment as well.
