Trading the Solar Ingress into Taurus

Taurus is traditionally associated with prosperity.

It's the sign of the zodiac most connected with luxury, with artistic refinement, and with opulence. It's the sign of banking, and most of the major stock exchanges in the world were founded when the Sun was in Taurus. In mundane astrology, it's the sign most connected with currencies and their circulation.

But what are the trading opportunities when the Sun moves into Taurus?

That happens each year on April 19 or 20.

It's an event that immediately brings the Tokyo Nikkei Index higher 60% of the time. For the S+P 500, however, it's more often negative, with lower stock prices on the day following the solar ingress almost 56% of the time.

Most European issues tend to be a bit more neutral in their reaction to the Sun's entry into Taurus. German stocks initially respond negatively to this transit, with lower prices nearly 53% of the time; in London the FTSE-100 goes up about 53% of the time. In Paris the response is decidedly more negative, with the CAC-40 dropping 60% of the time on the day after the Sun's Taurus ingress.

The Sun's entry into Taurus isn't particularly kind to precious metals, so it sets up potential shorting opportunities. Gold trades lower on the day following the Taurus ingress about 65% of the time. Platinum is lower 57% of the time, while Silver prices drop on the day after the ingress 71% of the time.

In other words, this planetary phenomenon certainly brings some trading potential, but that potential varies from market to market. As always, it's important to back-test what you're trading, and to limit your trades to those situations that offer a high probability of a positive outcome.
