Mercury Retrograde Strategies

Right now we are about halfway through a Mercury retrograde period.

The times when Mercury is retrograde are always challenging, especially when it comes to communications, transportation, and getting things done.

It's never a good idea to sign important contracts when Mercury is retrograde, and it's usually wise to allow a little extra time for traffic delays, telephone tag, disappearing emails, and general confusion.

But what does Mercury retrograde mean for us as astro-traders?

More often than not, it means that the markets won't behave in quite the way we expect them to, no matter how meticulous our analysis is and how cautious we are in our trading.

Some seasoned astro-traders simply choose to stay out of the markets altogether while Mercury is retrograde. They figure that the risk of error and misjudgment is just too high.

If we choose to trade with Mercury retrograde, we need to double-check our brokerage orders, making sure that computer errors or misplaced keystrokes don't inadvertently cost us a lot of money or put us on the unintended side of market positions.

We also need to be clear about our stop-loss orders and our exit points for profitable trades. Mercury retrograde periods are a great reminder not to let ourselves get too greedy in our trading.

If we can make it through a Mercury retrograde period with at least some of our profits intact, we can generally consider ourselves lucky. But even if we experience some losses in our trading, there's at least one consolation-Mercury is only retrograde for about three weeks at a time, and if we are reasonably cautious in our trading we can expect things to get back to normal soon enough.
